A Clinical Analysis of 18 Cases of Pancreatoduodenectomy in Benign Conditions

Abstract
The present study was undertaken to document indications and the role of pancreatoduodenectomy in benign conditions including trauma, and we followed 18 patients in Wonju Christian hospital from january 1983 to August 1992. Retrospectively.
@ES the results were follows.
@EN the male: female ratio was 5:1. In disease distribution, trauma was most common cause. Ultrasonography, abdominal CT scan, and ERCP were useful in preoperative diagonsis. Postoperative compiication was developed in 4 cases (22%).
Postoperative
death
was developed in 3 cases (16.6%) and their causes were hypovolemic shock, hepatic failure, and sepsis. Postoperative result was good in all cases, especially in chronic pancreatitis with intractable pain.
In conclusion, pancreatoduodenectomy is an effective procedure for extirpation of devitalized pancreas and duodenum when such organs are irreparable injured. Also, in chronic pancreatitis, pancreatoduodenectomy can bring relief of abdominal pain
in
most
of the patients and is an effective procedure for combined problems such as pseudocyst, or fistula.
